Global Game Jam 2018, the largest game making event in the world is taking place this weekend

Global Game Jam® (GGJ), the world’s largest game jam, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and largest event yet. Since 2009, GGJ has consistently provided a space for developers all around the world to create games and be a part of something larger than just themselves, their community, or their country. The first GGJ had 1,650 participants in 23 countries. Now, with over 40,000 projected participants and 805 sites in 109 countries spanning every populated continent on the planet, GGJ is breaking records once again. Many of our sites are hosting hundreds of people, with our Cairo, Egypt site holding the world record for largest physical game jam with an expected 1800+ people. We are on this weekend between Friday the 26th and Sunday the 28th and we can’t wait to play what you make.

We have extra celebrations for the occasion including #GGJCake, where we will see birthday celebrations for GGJ happening all across the world. We are excited to welcome over 40,000 people to come and be creative in making thousands of games of all kinds. Perhaps most exciting is the rise of specific sites; we have a board game-only site, a LARPing-only site, VR-only sites, and a single Escape Room-only Jam Site. We are proud to be an all inclusive event and welcome any adult as long as you were born on Earth. Come join us, find your local site here, and bring your friends. We have two amazing keynote speakers for everyone to enjoy this year too. We are pleased to announce Robin Hunicke, Co-Founder of the independent game studio Funomena, and Thorsten S. Wiedemann, founder and director of A MAZE festival. Their inspiring talks will open up the jam and motivate our participants to get the best out of the weekend. Their keynote presentations will be played at the beginning of the event, along with revealing the all-important secret theme. The keynote has been translated into over 20 languages this year making it more accessible than ever.

We have partnered with Unity, Amazon Appstore, and many more great organizations to help build games and dreams at our amazing event this weekend.
